Information about the IMPEX release 5.2.0

Release date: 2025-04-12

The IMPEX 5.2.0 release

The 5.2.0 brings one new feature requested by several customers; manual entry on the USB Protect station of password for encrypted zip-archives.

In releases prior to this, Impex has supported scanning of password-protected archive files, but only with centrally managed passwords provided via the ICC. Lists of passwords got automatically distributed from ICC to USB protect stations and were used while scanning. Hence, a user had no ability to input a specific password at a station. With this release, the additional ability for a user to also be able to provide a specific password has been added to Impex.

Unpacking encrypted zip-archives makes it possible to scan for malicious files within an encrypted zip-archive without having to unpack them outside of the USB Protect station. If the scan passes, and a Transfer was chosen, the encrypted zip-archive will be copied to the target but not the unpacked files. The files within the encrypted archive will however be in the scan report sent to the ICC server (and on the paper receipts) for audit purposes.

Important note to certain users: The “encrypted zip-archive” option requires the “Disable temporary file storage” option to be off, since the encrypted zip option unpack files on the internal drive. These two options are mutually exclusive.

Currently supported file types are:

  • .zip
  • .7z

As always with new releases, besides introducing new features, there are also some bug fixes. The most notable fix is a bug fix that handles long serial numbers of USB drives and how they are displayed. If needed, long serial numbers are now correctly handled in the PDF reports.

ICC fixes

  • The PDF report were missing line wrapping on very long USB serial numbers, making it hard to read

ICC changes

  • Added support for showing unpacked files from encrypted archives in file listings, PDF reports and CSV files

Repo changes

  • Repo AV-timers were moved from operating system timers to being handled by the Reposervice itself to be able to have more control and eventually be able to adjust timers from the ICC

Station changes

  • Added support for inputting a password for an encrypted archive, showing unpacked files and then include them in all listings
  • Added support for showing unpacked files from encrypted archives on paper receipts

Antivirus fixes

  • Offline definitions download were missing the trendmicro update signatures
  • Eset update information would sometimes not get updated although updates had been applied

Documentation

  • Instructions for Offline USBProtect station has been added to the Station Manuals. Both for installation and the process to follow to keep them updated
