This document provides an introduction to Impex, a security control used to manage and verify removable digital media such as USB drives, SD cards, external hard drives, floppy disks, and DVDs.

This operations guide is designed to support users in operating Impex systems. It provides both general and specific instructions related to the operation of USB Protect, DataLock, the ICC, and the Repo server.

All releases from sysctl will be announced to customers at least one week before the actual release date of the new software. The release announcement includes a more general description about the release and the technical changes.

This guide provides an overview of how to set up the Impex Assembly Station, including hardware assembly and cable connections. It ensures the station is installed correctly and fully prepared for operation following delivery.

Installation media can be downloaded from https://portal.sysctl.se as an ISO-file for every installation type or an Azure image for the ICC server. The installation supports only installation from ISO and not any kind of images with the exception for Azure image. Only the ICC server can be installed on Azure cloud infrastructures Azure.

The Impex Control Center (from here on ICC) is the appliance for fleet management of Impex scanners. These scanners can be USB Protect stations - the physical stations that are kiosks where removable media is handled - and DataLocks - which scans and controls network flows.

This document explains the preparations that are needed before the installation and configuration of an Impex system can be done. These steps and the information collected should be documented and kept ready at the time of the installation to ensure proper configuration.
