We develop cyber security products

Because we are, unapologetically, security geeks. Combined, we bring more than 100 years of experience in cybersecurity as consultants and advisors. Yes, that’s a lot of late nights worrying about things most people don’t even realize are problems.

Our product portfolio exists for one simple reason: we needed it ourselves. Deaddrop, our web-based secure file transfer appliance, was born out of the very real frustration of trying to send sensitive information to clients who had no secure way of receiving it. So we fixed that.

Impex followed a similar path, but focused on removable media. It’s a USB kiosk designed for controlled, secure handling of external devices. Think of it as a gatekeeper that doesn’t trust anything, which is exactly how it should be.

We also work closely with solutions like Dalock to strengthen endpoint and device-level protection, because security doesn’t stop at the network edge. It rarely even starts there.

All our products are developed in Sweden, but our customers are spread across Europe. Turns out paranoia about data security translates quite well across borders.

Research

We conduct ongoing research in the field of IT and OT security, with a strong focus on identifying and developing effective protection mechanisms that contribute to building more secure and resilient systems. This includes studying how different layers of infrastructure can be hardened, how data can be safeguarded throughout its lifecycle, and how systems can be designed to withstand both common and advanced threat scenarios. Instead of only looking for weaknesses, we concentrate on what actually works when it comes to protecting critical environments in practice.

In parallel, we explore methods and strategies for strengthening the defense of both IT and operational technology environments, where reliability and safety are often just as important as confidentiality. The knowledge gained from this research serves as a foundation for our development efforts, directly influencing how we design and build our products. The goal is simple enough: take what we learn and turn it into practical, robust solutions that make systems harder to compromise and a lot less likely to become someone else’s problem.

Development

Sysctl’s primary focus is product development. To date, we have established two product families: Deaddrop and Impex. The Deaddrop family is centered around secure file sharing and the transfer of large datasets, originally developed to meet our own internal needs within our consulting business. After several years of in-house use, it was further refined, expanded, and ultimately repackaged into a commercial offering. The Impex family was developed in response to a request from a large international corporation seeking a more secure and controlled way to manage USB media, and has since evolved into a range of related solutions.

Development is an ongoing process. Our existing product families are continuously improved and enhanced to meet evolving security requirements and user needs. At the same time, new ideas are actively explored, and additional product families are planned as part of our long-term strategy to expand the portfolio and address emerging challenges in IT and OT security.

IT-Security

IT and OT cybersecurity sits at the core of everything we do at Sysctl. It’s not a side concern or a checkbox exercise, it’s the foundation our research and development is built on. Every product we create is rooted in the need to protect systems, data, and operations in environments where failure is not just inconvenient, but potentially costly or dangerous.

When we develop software, security is not something we add at the end as a polite afterthought. It is baked into every stage of the process, from initial design to final implementation. We continuously think in terms of layered protection, defense in depth, and real-world resilience. The result is software that is designed with security as a fundamental property, not a feature someone remembered to include five minutes before release.
